Humanity deserves nothing more than to be obliterated from this planet

In order to achieve what I desired for my original weblog at Random Fate to be, I wanted to separate my political views from my other posts, placing only the political into my weblog here at Radio Saigon and my non-political or most balanced analyses into Random Fate.

What I have read in the past few hours goes beyond all comprehension, beyond all belief, beyond all limits, and cannot be restricted to one venue.

I cannot separate the political from the personal.

Some have said that “cultural relativism is evil”. If what they say is true, NO CULTURE DESERVES TO SURVIVE.

I have been reading weblogs on both the left-wing and the right-wing.

What do I encounter in response to the effects of the hurricane Katrina?

Instead of “here is what you can do to help those stricken in New Orleans, Lousiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and other areas” I find “what is (insert enemy point of view here) doing about this?” and “they (the opposition) are wrong because they are not doing (whatever)”.

There it is…

Do your own God-damned math, and tell your fellow travelers to SHUT THE FUCK UP if they can do nothing more than to cry how the “other side” is inadequate in their response to this disaster.

If you cannot do the math, if you cannot see the problem, then let me tell you something:

YOU ARE THE FUCKING PROBLEM.

Then shut the Hell up and let the adults take care of things, you pitiful, pitiful, hopeless children.

There is nothing more to say, and if you do not understand, you are not intelligent enough to be a full member of the human race.

Lemme ’splain some things…

I ain’t no “conservative”.

I ain’t no “liberal”.

I ain’t no ideologue of any flavor.

Ideology is for the intellectually inadequate.

I look for what is best for the country I love, the United States.

Far, far too often what is best, or even good, for the nation is not presented; instead the choice is “what is least damaging”, a sad state of affairs that will last as long as the majority tolerates it.

Is this what you want?

We *make* reality through our choices, ALL of our choices.

If you don’t like what I have to say, don’t read it if you don’t have the stomach for it.

If you care about your country, though, I suggest you climb outside your box on occasion to see if perhaps what you advocate is truly the path to long-term success.

In the dead of night when no one else is there…

…some thoughts dominate above all others.

One thought in particular, a troubling thought.

A thought that damns some, and gives hope to a very few.

Everyone dies, but not everyone really lives.

The dead have no voice

The televison drones on and on about all the visits to different nations the recently deceased Pope John Paul II made, with nary a thought or mention of the thousands now dying in Africa, in the Darfur region of Sudan among others.

Somehow, I do not think the recently dead would approve of the focus.

But the dead have no voice whether they die alone or in the thousands, no voice beyond the example of their lives, with these vital ephemera of examples and lives all too seldom recognized even in this age of television and easy, rapid communication.

The dead have no voice, and rarely, very rarely, do the living…

The quality of sound

Somehow, the popping sound from the opening of a whiskey bottle is different from that of a bottle of wine or champagne.

There is a festive quality to the sound given when the cork is removed from the bottle that you need a corkscrew to open, or have to release the wire holding the straining cork in the bottle.

With whiskey… the pop is mournful somehow, a warning that this is the first step on a road to ruin.

A useful warning often ignored.

The mournful sound is fitting… a celebration of the descent.

Looking in the air

The dark grey clouds that are the last remnant of winter stubbornly cling to the snow-fringed mountain peaks, with the warm air of the valley below forcing the cloud-edges far up into the deep blue sky, opening a portal for the warm light of the sun to bestow grace upon the river valley.

Yet where the springtime sun has landed there also rises the dark shadowy smoke of burning slash piles, destroying the remnants of death, the detritus of winter, a haze recalling still the toll of winter demanded in return for spring in the gloomy, ash-filled billowing smoke arising from the fires, the veil that obscures the warming sun.

Life emerges from the harshness of winter, but the iron cold death of that grim season lingers on in the renewal of springtime, a film of black covering the tender green, a reminder of the fate that awaits us all.

In the dark hours of the night

In the darkest hours of the night, when dawn seems an eternity away, to whom do you turn for comfort?

What is your solace in the hours of doom?

Can they be trusted?

What matters power if the soul is lost?

The tragedy of Faust is now wrought large by a generation unknowing of the perils of selling the soul in exchange for power, with those few who have a voice refusing to stand on principle but instead choosing to remain silent to avoid later accusation in exchange for a chance at power.

The irony is that in retaining one’s true soul against all odds is the most honorable, most rewarding, and ultimately the shortest path to true power.

And God knows who has sold their soul, and who has not.

When legends fail, whither us?

In 1960 there was a movie starring Burt Lancaster called “Elmer Gantry” about the perils of demagoguery and the seduction of fame and power.

It was meant to be a morality tale, and like all morality tales was exaggerated to what was believed at the time to be an impossible degree.

What does it say when now, four and a half decades later, it appears more as a documentary than a morality tale?

Legends and morality tales are meant to provide both positive examples and warnings. When the legends fail because of the heroes with feet of clay, and the morality tales more truth than fiction, whither our civilization?

Whither us?

Abandoning principles

The rage militia is out in full strength, with the demagogic leaders grandstanding in front, loudly proclaiming the sanctity of life, but were these not the same haranguers who cut support for the sick poor just last week?

Those same firebrands have decried the so-called judicial activism of the past decades, yet they have now convened a special session of Congress and set up a deal to allow an appeal to the federal judiciary of a matter that should be kept to state courts or even more appropriately, private.

A special law is being written to allow an appeal by relatives to over-rule the decision of a spouse in a matter of life and death, which is telling for the true meaning of the sanctity of marriage in the eyes of the demagogues, because their actions are in direct opposition to what is loudly proclaimed by they themselves, those self-same self-appointed guardians of public morals.

It is also an indication to their level of respect and esteem for the rights of the individual when the decisions of the individual are contrary to the desires and ambitions of those currently in power.

Such are the principles of the right-wing.

How far they have fallen from only a decade ago.

Of the directionless, emasculated left-wing there is little heard to defy the unjust defamation of the husband, nor of the twisting of the facts of the matter to fit the politics of the moment.

Ideology plays no role in this, because ideology is self-consistent, the actions in this case are not, indeed, they are far from it.

There is nothing from either wing self-consistent here and now; instead there are endless appeals to baser instincts and gut-reactions.

As with everything else in this slow walk down the path to the place that should not be named, it is all about winning at any and all costs.

The cost will be far more than the eventual ephemeral victory is worth, for the cost is the soul.

A Faustian payment indeed when the long term consequences are remembered and considered.

First dispatch

Things look grim. The world is turned upside-down, and all that was once held self-evident is now rejected out of hand.

Is this yet another a swing of the pendulum with an eventual return to some middle ground before swinging on to the other extreme, or are we on the first steps down a path to ruin?

More dispatches on the way, it takes time to extract the meaning from the noise and anarchy.
